Pte S. Packham 404419
A. Company,
3rd Battalion
1st Brigade
1st Canadian Div.
9th June 1916
Dear Mrs Gray,
It is with deep regret that I have to write and tell you about poor Charlie. He was killed on the night of June the 3rd, and Wall was wounded at the same time. I was not there at the time but from what I have been told by his other comrades, I gather that Wall was not seriously hurt, and they told me that Charlie passed very peacefully away a few minutes after he was hit. He was taken away and a bag after he was very quietly, with great respect, laid to rest with other fallen hero's who have given their lives for the cause of Right. Well dear Mrs Gray I hope you keep up, the best you can. It is gratifying to know that he has fought and died for his King and Country and his loved ones at home. I must now close, please accept my heartfelt Sympathy for you and all the family. Also on behalf of Ern And his other comrades
I Remain,
Yours very Sincerely,
Sid
