France
March 12th 16
Dear Mother:-
Received your letter of Feb 15th on Wed last. I also had a letter from Grandad and one from Vera Lamont which I answered.
I have not heard from Dad for a long time so I think he must be in France as he never answered my letter which I wrote him 2 or 3 weeks ago.
Now in regard to the assignment cheques don't let them put anything over on you because that is our own money. In regard to the separation allowance you should be getting $25 a month as Dad is a full-fledged sergeant. Don't for goodness sake let them do you and let me know if you have any more trouble in regard to the money that is coming to you.
I have made a remittance of $40 to you which you will receive in a month or two and I want you to bank it in your own name for after the war, so that we will have some each to lay our hands on to buy clothes with.
How are you getting along in the block? I expect it's somewhat easier on you now with a small family.
Well dear I have not heard from Syd since I was up to see him except for a field postcard saying he was well and saying he was being sent to the base, with the horses I suppose.
So you have booked Frank's seat for the Normal School, well tell him from me that even in conscription a mother can claim one son and so he is quite justified in not enlisting.
Well dear there is not much to say except that it was a very fine day today and the snow has gone off again. Give my love to the kids and remember me to all friends.
Jack
