Dear Mother:-
Just received your welcome letter of July 28th. Dad has just come over to see me. He saw Syd when Syd went through the Casualty Clearing Centre on his way to hospital. Syd is now at the convalescent camp and having a good rest.
We expect to be moving tomorrow so we have a parade today.
Pud Douglas came back to the platoon today for a while. We'll have been in France eleven months now and neither one of us has made Blighty yet.
Went to a concert last night with the rest of the battalion. It was put on by a bunch from the royal Flying Corps and it sure was great. I caught a glimpse of Lt. Laban but did not have a chance to speak to him.
The boys have just got Dad raked into a game of bridge, so I guess he will be busy for the rest of the afternoon.
I think I missed sending you a letter last but you need not worry if you go a week or two without a letter.
I got the plug of chewing tobacco that was in your letter O.K. It sure comes in handy.
I expect I shall be in the machine gun section pretty soon as I took a course some time ago.
I see in the paper that old Ingersoll has sold out and gone to Arborg to live with Yankee Thomas and Nellie. I guess he will wish he had not. Remember when I used to travel to Arborg?
Well dear when do you expect to be going back to Winnipeg? Give my love to all the folks.
Love
Jack
P.S. Am enclosing last week's letter. Forgot to send it.
