Dear Mother.

I received your letter of Aug. 24 a few days ago and those of July 7, 15, & 21 yesterday so there cannot be any more of my letters running wild now. Also had a letter from Aunt Mabel yesterday dated Aug 19 which had been to France and back. Yesterday morning everybody was looking for me and was told to go to the orderly room and when I got there they told me that "your father is looking for you" but knew at once it was Uncle Dick and had just run down from London to see me. He found out where I was from the Red Cross. My he is not near so fat as he used to be but is carrying his age very good I think. By the time you get this I will have had my leave and back to duty but do not quite know where that will be as I am marked D.1.and that means six weeks drills etc, which is supposed to get a fellow back to fit again and from there will go to my regimental depot. Allan Brok. is here at Epsom now but I think he is over with his old puptures again but am not sure. I do not suppose that my parcels will be sent on but we will not worry over that as long as the letters come. Uncle Dick said that dad had got a rotten deal he thought and asked if I had word of him doing anything yet. He does not know when he is going back but left me an address so when I go on leave will look to see if he will be there. I told them to make my pass out to Liverpool but cannot say if I will get that far but I guess I will have to do so as they only give us ten pounds to go on leave with and I have about $150 to my credit. A couple of days will help to spin the money out. It is just a month since I left France and am beginning to think that it will not very much longer before I will be back but if my stomach is good to me might keep me over here for quite a while yet. We are having a rainy spell now but hope it does not hinder operations in France. Tots wants to know if I will go in for ranching with him but that depends all on how this trouble acts with me, if it still stays the way it does am afraid it will be too much for me but will wait to see how things turn out. for I will have to do something that I will be able to make money at anyway. I have had four teeth filled since I have been here but one of them bothers me a little bit yet. I have not heard from Gordon for quite a while now as the last word I had from him was July 24, and no word from Andrew for a very long time. I had a letter yesterday from one of my friends from Winnipeg and told me her sister had got married so that will be another one off my list of correspondents. It is the big girl with the full face that is that big picture we had taken out at the beach in Winnipeg. I had a letter from her not very long ago and she was telling me that she was afraid that she would have to be an old maid and I told her that she was pretty slow if should could not grab some returned soldier but do not know if he was or not. They are some way related to some of the Laycocks I thing as I remember them telling me that they had relatives around there and am sure that is who they are. There is no news that I can think of that is of any importance so I guess it will only be a short letter. Love to all from your loving son
