My darling girl,

Your letter of 11th July to hand OK, this afternoon, I also got a letter from Hines, & it seems that Major Clingan has been made Lieut Col, & is in command of a Regt now being raised at Brandon, Hines is going to Fort Osborne Barracks on the 8th August to qualify for his Captaincy & is going to have a Coy in the same Regiment he however does not expect they will leave Canada until some time next year. We have just completed Musketry of the 52nd & 53rd drafts who came to us & they are under orders to leave possibly tomorrow, these fellows have only been here about a month & very few have had any leave to see there [sic] people over here which I consider is a dā€” shame. I went to see Rowley Myers the other day, he is in a Convalescent Camp about 7 Miles from here, called Monk's Horton, a large park & a beautiful place, he was wounded in the neck some time ago, you'll remember he is a nephew of Geo Mellon & went with the 5th Battalion, he is looking very well & I expect will be sent to us very shortly.

Glad to hear that you & the kiddies are having such a lovely time, I can well picture them enjoying themselves bathing in the sea, I hope Gwladys & Frank will learn to swim, & how about yourself girlie, or are you feeling too staid a married woman to start learning now. I'll be very glad to get those snapshots you mention, at the same time for the last time of asking get me those photos I have mentioned several times already very [sic] of you & the kiddies. Am sorry to hear that Eric has been troubled with earache. I hope you have got a permanent cure for him it is such a painful thing to have.

Glad to hear the bairns have such good appetites, I'll no doubt see a big difference in them on my return. Love to Annie, David, Raymond . Fondest love to your dear self, Eric, Gwladys & Frank.

Your loving hubby,

Jim
