No. 661146, Pte. F.G. Steele. 14th Cans. Killed 7.7.17.
"Steele was killed in one of the trenches near Vimy in front of Lens, either by a piece of shell or by concussion. I saw his body afterwards. The men from the 14th who were killed about that time were buried at a private burying ground the 14th had, near a place call The Beehive, at the foot of the Ridge. It was an old German dug-out, used as a Dressing Station, and the burying ground was close beside it. I did not see Steele buried, but it is almost certain he was buried there. He came from Bermuda. He enlisted from the 163rd which was on garrison duty at Bermuda. He joined the 199th and then was transferred to the 14th."
