Dear Leo,

Your welcome letter came today and let me tell you I was glad to hear that you had got the position in Q. Square. Of course Maya told me in her last letter that you were going to try for it but really I didn't hardly think you'd get it there would be so many applications in. Now you will have all kinds of chances to study and going to St. [Dunstan's] will be fine.

Well Leo this is not going to be a long letter at all as I haven't very much news for you and I'm kind of tired anyway, out at the ranges since five o'clock this morning and the same yesterday and again tomorrow morning at the same hour and then I think that will finish musketry for now anyhow.

Today was the most unpleasant time we've had as it pounded rain all forenoon and you can imagine what it would be like, shooting in that without any covering of any kind. The reason for all this rushing is that we're leaving this camp in a few days now for Bramshott about forty miles the other side of London where we will move into huts and likely stay for the winter. Of course it will be nice getting under a roof again but I hate the thought of leaving this place - towns all around us here and according to reports Bramshott is a pretty lonesome hole.

I didn't get to mass yesterday on account of being out at the ranges all day. There was some kicking about having to work on Sunday but such is life in the Army and withal nobody is working too hard.

I was talking to Frank McPhee and Frank McDonald yesterday evening and they also are going to Bramshott, leaving Tuesday for there.

Was glad to hear you had such a good time at Leonard's dance but you must be careful and don't spend too much especially with such a good looking girl like Hazel Moran.

Yes I had a long letter today from Aunt Maggie and she was just ready to mail a parcel to me then so I'll be looking out for a nice box of chocolates and stuff no need to tell you that big box of fudge Maya sent is gone long ago. I think it lasted two days and all those who patronized it pronounced it the best yet.

Now old fellow I think I'll have to close for this time. Write often and don't wait for an answer just send the news every week anyway.
