Dear Mother

I received your two air mail letters to-day dated Jan 16 and Jan 26 it took only 14 days for the last one to come over which is darn good the reason I got then both together we are now back in the Holding unit the R A have taken over our guns and I think we are forming a new battery so with all our moving to hear there was quite a mixup in the mail I also got Daves letter one from Muriel one from Bill one from Paul [A?] and two from Ray one from Bill Beatty also a parcel or something I cant get it till to morrow they just gave out letters to-day and it been Sunday we cant get our parcels till to morrow its probably the papers or books you sent me or the Cigarettes Uncle Bill sent me

I got the Cheque from my deferd pay and so glad you got it the Cheque was for 2 Pound 4 Shilling 9 pence. I dont want you to put any of it in the bank for me and I want you to have some at least Dad and you can buy a few bottles of Scotch so take what you want and send the rest to me and I really want you to take some that fine about paying the Heating Co $5 a month. Glad to hear you are getting my letters O K that one from Glasgow dident take long to get there. well I had quite enough money on leave and was glad to get your Christmas when I got back as I was natuarely broke. I also got the $7 from Dad quite a while ago and have sent him a couple of letter since. I also received three parcels of Dec 20 with the Watch Dad sent me (say I haven’t been numbering the letter lately and for got how far I got so will start again and number this 1 ). yes I remember Mr and Mrs Cluff very well and it certainly is a thing dident they have a son named Murry it kind of struct me they did.

Glad to hear Archie Campbell is now on Active Service he sure wanted to get into it. I got your cable all right and seeming Dad has made arramgements for me to send them collect I will send one ever four weeks as so to let you know every thing is all right. well they expect Hitler to invade any time now and seem pretty sure he will use gas but never worry we are to well prepard against gas so it will be useless for him to use it and every soldier is issued with every possible thing against gas so dont worry about it and once he tries to invade I think the war will pretty well be over.

I am so glad to hear Marg is getting better I told you in my last letter that Pat in the Hospital although not in bed and I hear he is going back to Canada trouble with his Stomach if I every see him I will mot say anything about Margery so I don’t know what he has heard about her. I kind of though after that Mrs Parkhurst was Sert but wasen’t sure so I will write her again and explain to her when she get my letter she will think it kind of funny as I though it was some auxerely so you could write her and explin and say I am writing her again. yes I have lots of sweaters and I really don’t need any underwear but you might send me some socks. I think my next leave will come in March some time but when I know for sure I will cable you. yes I got the parcel from Mrs Scott also a litter and have sent her one.

I havent sent many letters to the kids latly but will write them from now on. The letter I got from David to day was Dated Jan 9 so one he sent on Jan 23 is much slower then air mail as I have got yours for Jan 16 and 26 and have not got his yet. I think if you send one every Saturday paper and any other one you think I might be interested in will be fine. well I sure am proud to be a uncle and I am just waiting for the day when I will see her well it was just a year ago Yesterday Feb 8 that I joined the Army and it was six months Feb 1 since I landed here gosh time sure flys well I guess there is nothing more to say so please dont worry about me lots of love to all

Much love
Mac
