Dear Dad

I arrived safely after a good roudy journey. I only slept about two hours on account of five or six fellows, next to me. These fellows had amongst their selection of liquors an army water bottle full of some strong booze which as they drank it like water, soon drove them almost crazy. I woke up once to hear a very drunk officer ask a very drunk sergeant-major to send for a fellow who I know was also very drunk.

At Vancouver we had four hours general leave. Adrian and myself met Mrs Thrupp and we first paid a visit to Stanley Park and from there to Mrs Thrupps boarding house by way of English Bay. At this boarding house we were introduced to some ladies one of whom turned out be Stella Thielling (or however you spell it) who, when she found who I was, let off a shriek and said “Why child I saw you christened” (or something to that effect.)

Please write and tell me if I could be in time for a deer hunt if I came home

Your loving son
Sid.
