[Written on the back-side of a postcard picturing a treed country lane, captioned “LANE LEADING TO CAMP FROM SHOTTERMILL. 4498”]

Dear Mother

just a line tonight to let you know I am still alive and feeling fine, and hope you are the same. this is a lane which I go down very often, and is sure very pretty and is one of the many of which we martch through, while on our daily tramps. This sure is a pretty place over here but has been very dull ever since we came, have had only one bright afternoon, and that was the first day we were here, although it was not so bad this after noon.

Was going to write you a letter but as I wrote Ann, and there is not much news will write a couple of cards instead, you might keep these in store and I will redeem them when I return as they will be interesting for me, as I pass them quite often.

Well I suppose you will be busy with house cleaning and such like ere you rec. this, well don’t work to hard, and see and be under the blankets by 9 P.M. Which I always do, as lights are out here sharp at nine and we have to be in or are stopped by the guards.
