Just a note to say I am still well and have had a very enjoyable time here in Scotland. My time is up tomorrow night so I am leaving here tonight, will be in London tomorrow and then back to duty I may say right now the next leave I have I am coming to Scotland as it seems far more like home than any place I have been in for the past twenty eight months.
This week I have seen many of the old historical places and they are worth visiting Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood, Roslin chapel and castle (built 1304) or some such date about six hundred years ago, Forth Bridge, Scott’s monument, John Knox’s house and the museums. If I remember all I have seen in this country I will be going some.
In my last letter I spoke of visiting my friends near here. I was out again yesterday but sad to say I found a troubled household as the mistress, a lady larger than you and a little older had had a fall breaking two bones and fracturing her leg in two places, quite a serious thing on account of her size and age. Of course I did not stay long but while there she sent word to say she was sorry she spoilt my day and she had only been out of the chloroform a few hours. Its great to meet those kind of people when you’re so far from home as it feels like you were home again.
Well Mother dear I will have to tell you all about my travels some other time as I could not explain them all on paper. I am enclosing a couple of snaps which are not good but I am in the picture anyway. Will say bye-bye for now with lots of love.
Your loving son
