My dear Mother.

Just a short note to let you know that at present I am very much in the dumps.

This is my eight letter home since I have been over here and so far I have received three letters from Victoria. I also want to tell you that I have almost decided to stay with the Canadians in which case I expect to be in France as a private in the eleventh Infantry battalion before the end of January. Considering the circumstances I think that between the four of you at home you might please try and send me a line, just once in a while_ especially as the scheme of things just now is so jolly uncertain. I suppose that most of your spare time is taken up with correspondence just now so I must not expect too much. Most of the boys here who only are a few miles from home, get a letter a week whether they write or not. With best love to all.

Your affectionate son,

Edgar.
