Oct. 17th 1916
Dear Brother William :-
Just a few lines in answer to your three letters, one of Sept. 13th and the other two of Sept. 19th which I just received lately. I see by your letter you are going to send me a nice big bottle of strawberries, that will be indeed a treat, very much appreciated. I shall be very well pleased to hear from Mr. McDonald the Baptist minister, and if he writes me, his letters shall be promptly answered, and returned. Was Eva married by – him, or by – who? If she was not married by – him, She must have been married by – who. so you say the 141st has lost their Colonel, and they expect to be over in England soon, Well! that is quick work for them, ain’t it, and we might be getting a draft from them, the same as we got one from the 94th and you know, Teddy Leake is over here with us in C company, so you want to write to him, also Warn and Fred Stanforth is here with the 52, You know them. Warn got wounded, first night going into the trenches, with a machine-gun bullet through the arm, he yelled like a stuck pig. Do not think the machine-gun section is any risky thing for me to be in, because it is not. It is no worse than any other part of the Battalion. Now about the address, you will now put in addition to the address you have been putting, put Lewis machine-gun, and that will get me more surer. I got the Sabadilla, cake and also the safety-razor as you asked about. You may put the bottle inside the socks alright, but make sure it is packed well. No more at present, write-soon, Your Brother, Wesley
