Dear Joe

I got your letter a few days ago. Frank was killed by a sniper from the mouth of a dug out as near as I can find out he was shot through the chest and died without pain. He was buried beside some of his comrades. There will be crosses over their graves. They generally make a burial ground near every battle ground. We had a lot of casualties lately, but we killed lots of Germans and took lots of prisoners.

I got a parcel from the Arran Ladies about three weeks ago, in good shape too. I have never been wounded, yet it seems like Providence. I think this is all this time. May God comfort you all with his blessed word. I am yours sincerely,
