Dearest Mother -

As luck would have it, a few minutes after I mailed my last letter to you, I received yours of Oct. 14. You had then received mine of Sept. 18 in which I asked for a sweater and gloves. Parcels usually come two or three days after the letters so I hoped to get it in a day or so and sure enough I got it today. The paper wrapping was torn but everything was intact and in good shape. The sweater is grey blue and is fine being just the thing I wanted. There was also two dandy pairs of sox and a pair of mitts. She did not get the Cedar Oil, but a substitute for it which I believe is better - Sabidilla - stuff that many fellows get in parcels. It is nice that it came then so soon is it not? I have written to Aunt Lettie letting her know that I received it alright.

Was glad to learn that Willie D. was not very seriously wounded. Too bad that you and Gladys had such a time getting to and from the Convention. I hope Gladys is getting along alright at her school. How thankful we should be that Harold is not old enough to be touched by conscription. I wouldn't want to see a brother of mine out here. Too bad about conscription. I saw the proclamation in a paper. Am feeling real well and hope you are feeling well too.
Yours affectionately,
R.G. Brown
