Dear Mother:-

I have just received your letter dated Oct. 14, it's the first one from you since I went sick. There were two photos enclosed, one of you & Grandma etc. and another of you & Aunt Edie and little girl.

I will be here for Christmas I expect. We all expect to have a roaring time and I hope they are fulfilled. There is only one wish and that is to be home. I expect this will reach you about that time.

I have just written to Mrs. Row to say I won't be there for Xmas, they will be a bit disappointed, but there's no use leaving hospital before I am cured, it only means going back to France all the sooner.

I just received a letter from Frank, he is on the brigade now, which is much better than the battalion and quite a bit safer. Have you heard from Dad lately? I haven't.

That was wrong in the paper about being wounded twice and the Military Medal was won at Lens, quite a bit to the left of Vimy. But it doesn't matter anyway. Did they send you any official notice of it? I expect you will receive the medal in due time.

I do hope Bessie makes good at the exam, also that Philip is keeping at school regularly.

I wish you would let me know if you are short of money.

Well Mother I must close now, he dinner bell has just gone. We eat four times a day. I will write again soon.

Your loving son,

Syd

P.S. Merry Xmas to all and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.
