Earl Grey Hospital
Dear Mother.
You will be surprised to hear that I had to give up work and go to hospital yesterday but do not know just what they will do to me. The doctor says he thinks that it is duodum ulcer or whatever you call it. That is what Dr. Barclay told me I had. I do not know if it will necessitate an operation or not and if it does will most likely have to go to the general hospital as this place is just being fixed up with an operating room. Of course it will take a few days to decide what is to be done, anyway at present I am nothing but milks. The pains have been giving me fits for the past week and did not work after Saturday. I got the trunk and the register all right. I am sending you a money order for fourty dollars for which to pay my insurance with as it falls due this month and you had better send it right away. I expected to have had the notice before now. They hated to see me leave the office and told me to keep in touch with them as they would likely want me back if I did not have to stay in hospital too long, but am afraid that it will be a matter of a month or more. Bill Andrew has to go to the sanitorium down at Ft. Qu'Appelle for his lungs, but I will not be going there as it is only chest cases. This hospital is for the soldiers who need further treatment as they had so many cases that they are running the [?] what the call the Invalided Soldiers' Commission, of course it is free treatment but did not find out if I am on pay again but am almost certain of it. They worst part of it they are making me stay in bed for a few days of which I do not like very much and if they are going to do anything I wish they would start right at once and get it over with. I will keep in touch with you and will let you know what is to be done as far as treatment is concerned. There is nothing of any importance in the way of news so will close for now. Hoping this finds everybody well love to all your loving son
