Dear Mother,

I have rec'd no letters from you this week but I expect they will be held up as the Rows are away on their holidays just now.

I am still hanging around doing nothing except about an hour's jerks a day. I expect to be marked out this week.

I have just had a letter from Sydney enclosing a pound note. He is going to Shorncliffe for a month's gym course. I expect he will get an instructor's job if he makes good. I guess he will do all right.

Things are pretty slow here but I go to the camp cinema every night and have an occasional game of billiards.

Things seem to be going well at the front. Just heard from the battalion. They seem to have lost a few men and the colonel got wounded.

Love,

Jack
