My Dearest Betty & Kiddies:

It is now just a week ago since I left England & after various experiences etc I am once again just behind the line (not far from where I was wounded) & under shell fire, Fritz had been shelling this place for nearly a couple of weeks, I do not expect to remain her very long, I just arrived here with a party of eight others this morning & I suppose in a day or so we shall be distributed among different Y.M.C.A.'s

It does not seem very long since I was over before but yet it seems strange to be back & once more roughing & toughing it, I am in fairly good health & am sleeping much better, though my legs bother me a little it is now 3 weeks since I had any letter from you & I suppose that it will be two or three more before I receive any. You had better continue to address yours to me to Bella & she will forward them - I will let you know when to send them direct. Xmas will be well over when you get this & I shall have spent the 2nd away from home - but we must hope that it will be the last. The weather is not too bad but it is awfully wet & muddy I suppose the constant concussion of the guns make for such conditions, I do hope dear that you will not be too dissappointed about my not coming home, but still look forward to & pray for the speedy coming of the "Great Day" don't bother with any more parcels, its hardly worth while. My thoughts are with you & the babies continually & they will be especially on Xmas Day. My fondest love to yourself dear & Shirley & Billy with hugs & kisses God bless & keep you in His loving & protecting care, ever prays
