Dear Mother,
Your letter came yesterday at noon. I was up to see Grace on Saturday night and got my box. Last Monday we had a big parade all the soldiers in Toronto were out. The Duke of Connaught reviewed us on University Ave. It was very cold and we were all huddled up in our balaclava caps. The 95th was second in point on the march past that is not bad is it. We expect to have to turn out in the night tomorrow with all our blankets and kit. I don't know what it is for though. I am going to try and come home for a week from this Saturday but I don't know for how long. To-day we had to change bunks and are all moved around. I still have a top bunk yet though. Well I guess this is all this time will write to Violet soon.
Your son Jay.
