Dear Mother:

Just a few lines tonight as we are rather unsettled and there is not much of a chance for writing. We are up the line and at work again. Just pulled into position a couple of hours ago and are not yet squared away. We left our rest camp on the 19th and spent some three days in another camp then came on up to our position which is some little distance from our old one. The move came as a bit of a surprise for we had expected to be out longer. Received your letter of May 19 and 28 in this week's mail and also your parcel of fruit cake which went mighty good believe me. Many, many thanks for it. It came just before the move and certainly went right to the spot. Home cooking tastes good at any time out here but especially so when on the move. You ask about the Patriot. Yes I get it regularly and it is a very welcome visitor. Received letters from Clemmie and Belle in this week's mail also. One of Clemmie's had some snaps enclosed. They are very good and believe me I was glad to get them. It is next best to running in home to get a bunch of snaps. It was kind of Belle to write and must answer it as soon as I get time. I also had a letter from Bart. He was waiting for a medical board when he wrote.

Now I must say good night. I doubt if you can make this scrawl out. All well. Will write again assumed. Again thanking you for that cake.
