Dear Emma,

Here overlooking the sea. Watching the different vessels passing up & down the channel is pleasant, so am taking the time to write you, leaving the nurse in charge of the ward in the meantime.

We are at steady from 7 a.m. to 7p.m., not that the work is hard, but fussy. The railway trip across England was very enjoyable. The novelty & beauty of the scenery kept us full of enthusiasm all through the trip.

Sunday the 18th Jack and I took a stroll around the towns of Hythe, Sandgate, & Shornecliffe, queer, quaint old places. Will procure some postcards & send you.

Write & tell me what money they given you as their method of paying to me is a mystery. For this ½ month I had $6.00 coming and as I was overpaid $3.00 lst pay net amount rec'd $3.00 to last a fortnight. Borrowed 8 shillings from Jack so will make out.

Four destroyers now in sight patrolling. This morning there were 6 in sight with a submarine. While Jack and I were sitting on the downs two dirigibles & an aeroplane were in sight. Had a glimpse of the coast of France this A.M as it is visible on a clear day which is not often. Though the day may be fine, a must often obscures the view.

Had a big feed of cherries, a large bag for sixpence, more than 2 of us wished to eat. The apples are small, also the oranges, the latter not comparing favourable with the California fruit, full of pips.

One urgent matter to attend to - send at least 3 large plugs of T & B tobacco & a dollars worth of McDonalds chewing tobacco & a Saturday Evening Post weekly, also back numbers since I have left.
