Dear Mother
Since I last wrote we have done another turn of front line & are now again in the supports & one Tuesday the horses are coming up for us.
I am now in charge of a Hotchkiss gun with a crew of three men.
Last week thirty desperadoes from the regiment, including myself, made a raid on the Boche line & captured 18 of the enemy besides killing quite a number & we got back to our own lines without a man getting a scratch.
The General shook us each by the hand & saw that since the beginning of the war he had never seen a better piece of work.
The Boche were taken completely by surprise & the majority threw up their hands at once & the remainder didn't get a second chance but got what was coming to them right there.
The prisoners wee all either old men or boys thee wasn't a decent sized man amongst them. But hey were all well clothed & equipped. Said they had been getting plenty to eat.
[?] parcel and Audrey's arrived together on the day that we went ‘in'. So I was well fixed up in the grubline.
The weather is grand we are certainly making up for the bad winter & late spring.
How is the garden coming along. I expect it is pretty dry for the seedlings.
Will write again soon. Much love to all.
Cuthbert
