Dear Mom & Dad,
I hope this finds you both well, and enjoying spring weather. I feel pretty good myself today, in spite of the heat, (which averages around 110 degrees most of the time), because I got a letter from you last night, and the watch came just now at noon. Thanks a lot for sending it and thanks for the band aids, too. I had hot cross buns on Good Friday morning too, at the boarding house where we stayed in Calcutta. We didn't attend church Easter Sunday though because we had been out and around nearly all night. We had quite a party. With my chums and I there were a few American mechanics, swell guys, and a sgt.-pilot in the R.A.F., who was a real Scotsman. I'm glad to hear that Uncle Joe is well. You may get rumours of Jap peace feelers but you should hear the Jap news broadcasts we get. You should hear too, some of the tales I heard from soldiers from all outfits, who were also on leave in Calcutta when I was. I'm glad to hear about the garden. It's nice that little Michael has a cousin now, isn't it. You know, Mom, the longer I'm out here the less I feel that marriage would be wise without being first rehabilitated and started out on something definite, but with Margaret in England how can I do it? Maybe things will work out when I see her again. Sometimes I nearly go nuts thinking about it and wondering if I shouldn't go home & forget all about it after the war. I'm sorry to hear about Mr. Jones. You should have the photo I sent by now. I was ahead of you on that one. Love, --- Joe.
