Somewhere in France
April 22nd, 1917

My Dear Jessie:

Just a line to let you know I am still alive and howling, as the old saying is. I have not heard for a week or two from you, although I received your socks O.T. today; was looking for a letter but got [?]. There is not much to write about; we are out of the line now for an undefined time; hard to tell when we will go in again; we certainly got our [?] up the last time we were in. The French are doing great work these days aren't they? I suppose you saw by papers or heard from Mrs. Lindsay that Mauroc was wounded; I don't think it is serious; haven't heard from him since I arrived in Hosp. hope he is all right I saw him a short time after we got in our objective that night but didn't see him after. he was wounded. Have not seen the Farnell boys lately but hope they are O.K.

Well! how is everything going at home; same as usual I suppose everything is the same. Well! I think with this short time I will close hoping you are well at home.

Love to all from
Loving bro Spencer

P.S. One of the boys in this hut just made a tin of cocoa which tasted very nice; he was very generous with it.
