My Dearest Jessie,

Our Canadian mail has not come in this week yet but suppose it will be in before long. I will have to write this tonight in order to get it off tomorrow. We are still at the base, have been up to front line trenches a few times on night work; was up two or three times last week there is certainly lots of mud up there, but is not as cold as it is in Can. it is getting quite warm here now, the ground is quite soft and muddy. You are certainly having cold weather in Can. 20 below is going some. We are in quarantine here and have been ever since we arrived here, I wish it would lift, I would like to get out and see the country. I guess it is because mumps was in the Battn. when we came across, there are two or three platoons in Witley [?] with mumps.

Was glad to hear you were sending some [?] and cake; they certainly taste nice over here. Had a letter from SAde a few days ago; she told me John and [?] had a pretty little son; that's not bad at all. Theirs a Malone young man in our platoon; he was telling me today that John was liked well down there and had all he could do; he seems to get along well wherever he goes. How is [?] coming off. it must keep you busy waiting on Father and Viola. Hope they are both getting better Father seems to have a [?] of it every winter it's a nasty thing to have. I don't think there is any thing else to write at all. Hope Father is better well of [?]
Love to all, from Loving bro.
