SEPTEMBER 21, 1945; NAPLES

Dear Bernice:

Haven't any writing paper with me, so this envelope will have to suffice. Like the story, 'Dear Mabel, at last the war is over and I am coming home.' Came down here yesterday via truck and train. What a rugged trip. Busy today getting papers straightened out, and baggage tomorrow.

We expect to sail the 23rd, but one never knows, and where we land we know not, so I can give you no information-only that I'm on my way. This may reach you, too, after I get back, but am taking the chance. Rumor has it we go to Camp Dix in New Jersey from whichever port we land. We get a leave of one month or so, then report back for discharge or further doings. I may drop in on you any time now-have the bologna ready and some good ones in. I know nothing of your doings. The only letter I've had from you was after Eva's graduation. Nor have I had any from Gladys, in fact no one but your step-ma. A fine lot. 'Get on your own lot.' I'll need plenty mental rest, as I'm as nervous as a witch. The noise here in the city is driving me mad. Am at an hotel. Be seeing you soon.

Love, Frank
