My darling girl

It seems ages since I got a letter from you, cant understand it, I feel sure that you write & the others all seem to get their mail, the last letter I got from you was dated April 26th.

Well we did our 15 mile route march yesterday, & are now billeted in a nice little village where it is fairly quiet, I & 3 other officers of my Cy are billeted in a farm house & are very comfortable, dont know how long we shall be here, but I can assure [you] it is a welcome change.

We had a heavy rain this morning but the weather is very warm & summery. Bye the bye girlie we had a great laugh when I found sugar in that parcel you sent, in fact sending sugar out here is like shipping coal to Newcastle as we are never short, & you poor ginks in Blighty cant get enough. I hope you have sent those articles I wrote about in my last letter.

The general opinion out here is that the war will be over this year, I think so too providing we can hold them back from the channel ports & I feel pretty confident that we can. Well sweetheart it's not easy to write a long letter when I dont get any, I think & dream of you & the bairns all the time & it will be a happy day when we meet again. Fondest love to you & the chicks.

Your loving,

Jim
