July 8 - Reached Prince Albert at 7:30 a.m. All went ashore to exercise ourselves, and it was payday, the first payday since we came west. The Prince Albert people got quite a lot of the money; at least the stores did, and one hotel bar was simply bought out. Then Big Bear and other Indian prisoners were paraded in front of us. We whistled a march for them, "The Elephant March". Left at 2 p.m. with cheers from all.
