Dear Leo,

I guess it is my turn to apologize for not writing sooner, but we have been on the move so much lately that it is almost impossible to do anything in between except sleep and get what rest you can. Already we've marched about 250 Kilometers and we still have about 50 before we reach our destination. Some hike you will say and with full equipment too, ammunition and everything else. I'm sticking it all right so far and I guess I can make the remainder of it now.

I received your two letters, written after you returned from your trip home, some little time ago, and intended answering them sooner but as I said before I couldn't get around to it.

The last letter I had from home they enclosed a snap of yourself and the class you are in. I also got the small snap you sent of yourself. They are both fine and it seems to be a nice looking uniform you are wearing.

I was talking to Steeples this morning, he is a Corporal now mind you, he wished to be remembered to you and said he would write soon.

I suppose you fellows in Canada will soon get your discharge, as there will be no need of holding men over there now that the war is over. It will likely be a few months before we see Canada yet, but we are all looking forward to it and it will certainly be good when the day arrives.

They were telling me in the last letters from home that Leonard is anxious to get out and earn. I suppose there is nothing like starting in young and if he is thinking of picking up a trade he can't start too soon.

I don't know what I will do when I get back, nothing I imagine for a while at any rate. I guess the farm will be good enough for me. There is talk of the government giving all returned men who wish it a grant of land, most likely in the West somewhere. That will be a good thing in many ways and will entice a great many to settle on the land.
