March 31st 1918
Dear Leo,

Your very welcome letter of March 6th arrived today along with a number from the folks at home.

Well Leo we are going to France at last. On Tuesday night we pull out for the 26th Batt., so I'll be right with Austin after all.

Today, "Easter Sunday", we had an inspection on the parade ground. Tomorrow there will be another one, then there will be a Brigade inspection Tuesday morning and we will leave that evening. Believe me I'll be glad to get over there and to the 26th too. I thought one time they were going to shove us into a Pioneer Batt. But now we are satisfied it is the 26th as we have our Identity Discs for that unit.

Yes Leo I think you should try and get into something like the Aviation Corps. The poor Drafters don't get much chance over here they have to work Saturdays and Sundays which used to be half holidays for us, and they will be pushed right over to France in no time only receiving 6 weeks drill in the country and many of them never had a rifle in their hand until they landed here.

I would have liked to get another pass before going to France. I have lots of money too, but then going to France is just as good to me. The 1 spot in your letter arrived O.K. also $2 from Papa and although I won't go on pass it will come in handy in France. Don't bother sending any more Leo also tell [May] not to send any more, she needs it for herself as she isn't making much. And I would like you to give her as good a time as you can, because she was always good to us with her money when we were short. And if you remember rightly we used to "sponge" on her pretty heavily.

Now I think we sermonized quite enough for one time, so I'll close wishing you the best of luck in your exams. My next letter will likely be from France.
