May 3 - Had church parade in the morning on the port side scow, Col. Williams reading the service. The boat took a notion and ran all this time without getting stuck, but would not let us have dinner though. The damd [sic] old tub ran hard aground just as the bugle sounded. All pulling on the rope again and after an hour's hard work we got her going once more. Towards evening about a dozen teams came and met us from Middleton's camp; wanting oats and hay. Told us that all were anxious about us, thinking we had fallen into enemy hands. Ran boat ashore and tied up for the night. Teams loaded up and went back to camp. Pete Robertson of Port Hope came aboard with Col. Williams and stayed all night. He is farming here near Saskatoon; he looked like a tramp.
