Somewhere in France

Dear Mother

Just a few lines to say that I have arrived in France O.K. We came across yesterday and it sure was rough. Nearly everyone was sick. I held out till land was in sight on this side then I was as bad as anyone. Very few could afford to laugh for the majority were sick. I received your letter saying you had arrived home from your trip and was glad to hear that you had enjoyed yourself. Did Charles get to see all his old pals. They would be like strangers after him being away so long. I'll bet he enjoyed his stay at the ranch with uncle will. I have heard from Hannah a couple of times from Alberni. She must be having a fine time. The two pictures she sent of her camping at Ashcroft were fine. The last letter I got was the one in which Dad & you both wrote a page. It's a good thing dad's partner is a decent sort of fellow. The work will be a lot easier. He was saying the pipe I sent was fine.I'm glad it didn't get broke. They some times get pretty rough usuage. I sent Shindy a hankerchief and just heard that he got it alright. He had a fine time on his trip to the coast. I was glad to hear that he had enjoyed him self. He didn't like to come back to Kamloops again. Tell dad I saw a fellow called Ted Snowdon. He used to be one of Nanaimo's famous half-backs I guess dad will remember him. I knew his crooked jaw whenever I saw him He has been over hear a long while.

I had a letter from Scotland saying Cousin John had been home on leave. They sent a couple of snaps he looks fine in his officer's uniform I would like to have seen him.

Well mother there isn't much I can write about here so I will have to close with best love to Hannah, Charles, Dad & yourself.
