Dear Sish:

If Iam not altogether too late, I want to thank you awfully for that $3 which you sent me some time ago. It came just as my weekly salary ended and thus very acceptable.

I am going to school now every day and am having a great time.

The weather lately has not been prepossesing . It has rained somepart of everyday for 3 weeks and was cold as winter for about 2 ½ weeks before that.

We have five hens which lay 4 eggs per day now.

Ralph Blackmore sails for England Monday.

Herman Mahon came back from New Glasgow last Tuesday.

Herman and I are going to Halifax Monday to enlist. Herman in C.A.S.C. and I in the 10th Heavy Siege Battery C.E.T.

About 10 Academy boys have gone in the 10th Battery. The reason we all have decided upon this is that when a boy reaches the age of 18 he becomes a conscript and this is a disgrace we do not wish to undergo.

To tell the truth Herman and I do not expect to pass but I will write you upon my return from Halifax. I hope you will not feel badly about this. There is a fine bunch of fellows in the 10th Battery, University fellows lots of them and a lot of fellows I know. But don't worry I may not pass.
