45 Reinforcements Napier Barracks Shorncliffe England 1/10/15 Dear Sister I received your letter and also the scones yesterday thanks very much for them, I got them just as we came in for dinner. I had about three pancakes and half of a scone, before it was all gone, so it did not last long once we got it open we did not even wait till dinner time so as to get a bit of butter, the fruit was fine all but the plums they were broken but we eat everything, I had a box of plums from home the day before but they were broken quite a bit when they got here, we have had some nice cold rain since I wrote last it rained all night and nearly all the next day, we were not very comfortable in the tent where there is fourteen men kits and rifles all piled in, there is not much room left, well I don't know when I will get up there. I may get away about the middle of the week but I don't know as there has got to be one man come back before another can go away and there is every trying to get away, but I will let you know some way or another when I am coming well I think that is all this time. I remain Your loving brother Alex
