France 30/8/16 Dear Sister I received your parcel and ever welcome letter quite a few days ago so I had better wrote a few lines now, we have been out of the trenches quite a little while this time, we are billeted away back in the country it is rather a nice part of the country around here, and there is a little village near by, that we can go to for to pass away an hour or two in the evenings. The weather is rather unsettled out here it has been rather wet out here lately but the sun does shine once in a while, we are having a fair good time of it just now, and the longer it last the better you will have to address my letters as Pte as I have lost the stripe, not through any fault of my own, but it was a mistake that we were ever made L.Cpl. I am still No.1 on the gun, well I had a letter from Lizzie yesterday, she was saying she had another boy1 I think that is five now. Well I think that is all this time. Hope to hear from you soon. I remain Your loving brother Alex
