a village Behind the lines!
In France

My dearest mother,

Just to let you know my change of address - which is as above! You will be delighted to hear that at the present moment I am in the village where I spent several nights before going up to the trenches last Tuesday.

I did not know until 8pm last evening that when the others went farther up the line I was to go down the line for a rest and you can guess how gladly surprised I was.

I received your second Quaker Oat box parcel this morning with the British Weekly and a letter from Daisy Waller. So far I have only just opened the parcel - the "gingers" look "extra"!

I am going to leave this now so that I shall be sure of catching the post and am writing with more detail later on.

The Quartermaster told me this morning that my papers are now working.

Good news all at once!
