On Active Service

WITH THE BRITISH

EXPEDITIONARY FORCE

My dear mother,

It is nearly bed time and I am just writing a short note to acknowledge the receipt of your parcel, sent on Saturday 19th inst containing vermin powder, Harrison's, cake, toffee, lemon etc, a letter from dad, Cyril and Walter dated 21st. Thank you very much indeed for them. The parcel is A1 and contains just the sort of stuff I need most. The cake is simply "posh" - I have not had any cake since I left home and you can guess that it is appreciated. Thank dad, Cyril and Walter very much for their welcome and interesting letters. I will reply to each in time.. I am so glad you survived the raid without casualty.

I am just sending this short note, as I probably shall not have more time to write fully before the post goes tomorrow.

With fondest love and xxxxx

from Dinkey
