Dear Mrs Ellis:
I received your letter last week and was awfully shocked to hear of Jacks death For Jack and I were great friends And I felt awful bad about it And you have my most sincere sympathy Oh it just seems as though none of us would ever come through this terrible war But we must carry on
I was over to the place you mentioned Jack was buried and found his grave But could hardly believe he was lying there For he was so full of life when I parted with him four months ago
I will try to get over again and put some flower over him. Although I found his grave it is hard to find out anything about his death I saw the books he is recorded in but could not make out the Chaplin's signature So could not find out anything about him And besides there are so many buried everyday that he could not remember
I found others of our Bn[?] in the same burying ground It is in a lovely spot in an old grave yard but well kept up.
Hoping to hear from you again soon I will close And if I ever get the chance to come to Reading I would love to do so For Jack and I were like brothers and I would like to see his mother
Yours Sincerely
Fred E Allin
