Dear Mother & Father
Just a few lines to saw we have received your letter 1 in one week & hoping you are in the best of health as it leaves us at present. We had the letter about the money & your to wait for further new before we see about then we go to see our paymaster. Please to hear you enjoyed yourselves as the picnic but I guess you didn't get 13 prizes in the house this year but it was good of Harris to pay the men ½ a day's pay & to fund all the food & drink but it time they done something they are making money. Hope Alf & Father are still at work is Alf going up harvesting & how is he getting on with the wheel. Hard luck on old George getting his discharge but I guess it was best for him has Elvin got his if he has it's a very poor outlook for him but I should like to see him out here humping a pack along the road for about 5 miles it keep me guessing it not the clothes we carry it the ammunition that the weight & the roads are bad. Dear Mother & Father we have been in the trenches 3 times so we are getting used to it now we are back at the resting place now for 6 days but we go back this week that was a pretty bad smack up the Russian Plat gave the Germans the other day that makes up a little for the sinking of the Arabic last time we were in the trenches you could speak to the Germans in some places but we had to shout where we were. Charlie received May letter the same time as I was writing this tell her the next time she writes to be sure & put the right address she put 2nd Division instead of the 1st but it got here alright. Had a parcel from Annie last week & we are expecting one from Bert tomorrow another good supper We would like you to send a Sunday World now & again. Well I think this is all I have to say then remember us to all & to Fred Page so I will close the letter.
From your
Loving Sons
Wally & Charlie
