d"Trenches",
Flanders,
February 22, 1916.

Dear Mr. Mackenzie,

The idea has been in my mind, you might possibly like to hear form a couple of your old pupils, who although not being very good "Old Boys" have not forgotten those happy days we each had in our turn under your supervision.

We are both in the same machine gun section of one of the "Canadian Battalions" in the "Second Contingent" and have been over here about six months.

Up to date, barring lots of bad weather, we have managed to enjoy life, to a certain extent, under the conditions of trench warfare.

Between us, we have met a few of your old scholars including Bill Carey, Jack Harman, Lumsden, Cumberalnd, George Cockshutt, Dick Oliver, Renfrew, Joe and Robin Crombie - all serving in different units of the Canadian Expeditionary Force, and feel sure that each and every one will uphold the honour of the "Good Old School".

With kindest regards to both you and your family,

We are,

Yours respectfully,

Fred Anderson
Vincent Crombie
