Dear Mother
As it is quite a while since I heard from you I thought I would drop you a few lines to let you know I am well and hoping you are all the same.
We had some pretty wet weather in Vancouver last week and occasional showers this week. I was send here Monday in charge of eight men as guard on the C.P.R. bridge at Salmon River about 3 miles from Keefers and 136 miles east of Vancouver. we may be here for a week or perhaps a couple of months We are camped right at the junction of the Salmon & Fraser rivers and scarcely a soul within miles. One of the boys happens to be a fair cook so we are pretty lucky. Corporal Wes Lowe is about 11 miles from here at a place called Big Skuzzie with 3 men.
I suppose it would interest you to know that I really did go up to Charlie Bougers (after he had been to the Drill Hall to see me) and got that cake you sent nearly a year ago. My but it was just as good as if it had been only a week old.
The Government allows each man 75 cts for grub per day besides his pay, if we can live on less than that they give us the difference You can bet we will save a little.
Well there is very little news here of any kind so I will close.
Write soon
