Dear Mother

Just received your letter of Feb 16 and was very pleased to hear you are all well. I received the box of chocolate bars quite a while ago. I suppose you have received the letter in which I asked for some maple sugar when it comes. You wanted to know what the trenches were like, well in the early part of the winter they were rather wet but now are OK. Half the letters some of the fellows send to the papers are just a pack of lies.

I was reading one today which the man wrote I ought to be ashamed of. I know it was all lies as he came over the same line as I did and went back in November.

St Patrick's Day passed off quietly. The Colonel supplied Shamrock for everyone who wished to wear it.

We are having lovely weather now, just like May on P.E.I. The trees are coming out in leaf and the grass is nice and green.

I wrote you a letter two days ago so I expect you have it before now.

Well news is scarce so I must close.

Write soon and let me know all the latest news

Goodbye

Charlie
