Dear Mother

Just a few lines to let you know that I am O.K. and hope you are the same. We have had very chilly weather lately and considerable rain which made it very disagreeable at times.

We have had a strenuous time lately. No doubt you have seen an account of it in the papers long before this.

I received your letter of May30th a few days ago. It contained a cutting about Roger Farquharson's will.

When I was on leave I sent you a photo and some French, German & British Cartridges. I hope you got them all O.K. I also sent a photo to Geo Worthy as he wanted one for the Lodge. My company commander must think I was a failure as a L.Cpl. as he has since made me L/Sgt. and today a Sgt. so you see promotion is rapid here.

Well news is scarce so I must right off. I spent my birthday in the trenches with a big [?] [?] too. However everything is Jake.

Write soon
Good bye
Charlie

I could use a little more Maple Sugar
