July 7/15
Dear Mother
Just a line to let you know I am well and hope you are the same. We arrived here all safe Sunday and are getting along O.K.
I saw quite a bunch of the fellows who went with the first Contingent they are just over here for a while. We had a great trip across from Plymouth to here. This is a very pretty country but I think Canada has them all beat. There are a great many Canadian troops here. more than went on the 1st Contingent.
We are working pretty had but I guess we need it. some of us started a course in Musketry today which will take ten days than I suppose it will be something else.
Did I tell you I was up to see Charlie Bouger before I went away. Miss Winslow and I went up we had a good time.
Well there is not much more to tell you at present as I have not had a chance to get around anywhere.
We heard that there was a report around that the boat we were on was torpedoed but you can tell from this there was no truth in it. We had two destroyers as escort with us for a day before we reached England. So there is no danger from submarines when there are destroyers around.
There is a great bathing beach here and a promenade about 2 miles long at Folkstone 2 miles from here. we were down there Tuesday morning.
Well mother this is all the news I have at present.
Send a few papers sometime soon.
Goodbye
Charlie
