Charlie Hill Gives up his Life on the Battlefield 

On Monday morning the citizens of Boissevain received a shock when they heard of the death of another of Boissevain’s honored young men in the person of Charlie Hill, second son of Mr. and Mrs. B. Hill. The wire from Ottawa informing the parents of their son’s death contained the information that he had been killed on October 22nd, and gun shot wound in his head had been the cause of his death. 

Charlie practically grew from childhood to manhood in our town and was at all times highly respected by all who knew him. When the war broke out Charlie was anxious from the first to do his bit and just as soon as he was old enough he signed up with the 45^th battalion; enlisting on May 16^th, 1915, and the following March he was on his way to England, and on June 6^th, 1916, he went over with the first draft from the 45^th to France and became attached to the 43^rd Highlanders. Charlie was a fine student always industrious and courteous and had he been spared there is no doubt but what he would have made a name for himself in civil life. He died at the age of 21 fighting the good fight and willing to lay down his life for his King and Country. To the bereaved parents the sympathy of the whole community is extended.
