Dear Daddy & Mother
I received your nice letter yesterday, it sure is fine to get a line from home up here in the trenches we are in the reserve trenches now but we go out trench digging nearly every day. I see you are asking if I got your parcels I did, I first got the big one then a day or two after I got the small they were fine I sure liked the fudge and also the mince pies. I got the 12/2 but too late I didn’t get it until I came up the line. We have had it pretty cold here for a couple of weeks but I think the weather is changing to-day, so I guess we will get some mud and rain the ground is frozen in about 20 inches. So you can imagen how hard it is, it is fine weather for the big shells they don’t go far into the ground before they burst then they have more effect on every thing around it doesn’t take you long to get down flat when one of those 9.2 go off a few yards away. Well this is all this time hope you are well.
From your son
Jack
