Imperial War Graves Commission
Wooburn House, Wooburn Green,
High Wycombe, Bucks.
19th March 1948
Dear Sir,
I have to thank you for your letter of the 10th March also for kindly returning the Verification Form in respect of the late Lance Corporal J.F. Watson in Bretteville-sur-Laixe Canadian Cemetary. The personal inscription has been carefully noted and will be engraved on the headstone eventually to be erected as under:
BLESSED ARE THE DEAD
WHO DIE IN THE LORD
THEY REST FROM THEIR LABOURS
With regard to the request of the father for the Burning Bush to be engraved, I regret that this would not be possible. You will appreciate that the Commission receive requests for many different kinds of emblems and badges and they have been obliged to limit these symbols to the Cross for those of all Christian denominations and the Sign of David for members of the Jewish Faith. The Cross will, therefore, be included in the design on the headstone.
Yours faithfully,
N Dean
