Some Where In France
July 10/16

My Dear Little Girl
I received you welcome letter yesterday and was very pleased to hear from you and to know that you and little Tommy are both well. I am sorry that telegram was sent from the war office saying I was wounded, as it was only very slight and with the exception of being lame for a week or so I was perfectly O.K. and continued on with my duties as before. I just got back from leave a few says ago and had affine time the weather was very good while I was in England and I travelled around a good bit and saw some very interesting places among other places I went to Portsmouth one of Englands large naval bases, while there I went aboard of Nelson's old Flagship the Victory on which he was killed during the battle of Trafalgar, it was very interesting indeed. I also went to Windsor but could not get into the castle, as it is closed to the public during war time I also visited the hospitals and saw some of my men and two of my officers and they were very pleased to see me poor fellows. I did not see Major Allen as he had left the hospital he was staying at. He is suffering principally from shell shock and well not come back to the battalion. As to Major Bardolph and Capt Edwards the less said the better but you bet they wont ever show their faces near this battalion again, a man or officer who gets shell shock has all my sympathies for that may come to any one at any time but I despise a coward. My name has been sent in for a Majority so I will soon be a Major now and if I receive the Military Cross too why things will sure be coming my way. I am now third senior officer in the battalion, Col Batt has done very well lately and we get along fine our little conversation greatly improved matters. I met Major Moberly in Shornecliffe he is allright again and is trying to get over here again. We are still in billets but do not know how long we will be here yet. the weather has been inclined to be showery but it has been fine this last few days. I am sorry that your crop is not as good as it might be but never mind dearie that is not your fault as you certainly have done the very best you could. When I get my Majority I shall be able to send you more money and you will also get ten dollars more separation allowance which will help some. I expect to be able to send you some money by the end of the month. I think it is getting about time. Did you ever receive that little silver tray I sent you some time ago. I had it registered so it should have got to you O.K. I received a letter from your Father a couple of days ago and will answer it soon. I was sorry to hear of Frank Winters and Mrs Wolfendens deaths but I suppose on cannot live always. I don't think there are any more news to tell you only the French and Russians seem to be giving old Fritz the devil now which he sure deserves. I will close now with best of loves and kisses to yourself and our little Sonny My God Bless you Both

Your loving Hubby
Tom
