Dear Minnie
I got your welcome letter today & was very glad to get word from Home. Thanks Minn I'll look out for the Parcel. I got a big one today from Sarah, some Parcel. I am being well looked after in the way of parcels so don't worry about me Minn.
Got a waterproof match box from the Bank Note with my initials on it. Just what Lizzie B was telling you about. It was nice of them to send it. I enjoyed your letter fine Minnie. No Minnie, I've lost no limbs yet & hope I don't but one will be thankful if he gets out of this scrap alive, after what I've seen. I wouldn't mind baby crying now, it would be music to me Minnie you're right. I didn't know what war was then. Oh I wish I was there with you to celebrate Xmas. I'd buy you the best Turk in Ottawa, Minnie. You bet I would. I see no sign of the end of the war. I wish it was over. Well I'll close with love to all & Happy New Year. Remember me to George,
Brother John
Am out of the trenches for a rest (glad too Min)
